NC - Badin

{loadspidervideoplayer playlist=56 theme=7 priority=flash}

Badin is a "Company Town" from 1913, and the history of why it was founded is certainly a lesson in economics, war materials production, and location, location, location.

Now that ALCOA has shut down its' plant here, the town is slipping into a new era - one in which the scenery is the main attraction.

If you want to experience some rarely enjoyed scenery, take Falls Road all the way to the end. It terminates at a boat launch and offers a quiet moment to ponder the next twisty road. For the more energetic riders there is a large, and very popular, swimming area alongside NC-8 at the north end of the little town. There are no changing rooms or other facilities, but on a hot day this could be a really cool place to be.

Badin Treehouse Coffee, 24 Falls Rd, Badin, NC 28009. Phone: 704-422-6580.

New owner/management has taken this location to a good reputation. Frequently busy, it has a full menu and some different coffee.

The Joint On The Corner - I don't even know if it has a name, it's on the corner of Falls Rd and NC-740, part of the convenience store that sells fuel. A small group of us that visit Morrow Mountian frequently stop here for a burger and fries. Not the best decor, but the food is reasonably priced and is better than a Happy Meal from McDonald's ...
