$5 Adult fee to tour the Sandburg home. No fee to walk the grounds. He was America's Poet Laureate in the 50's and 60's. A quiet man with a great ability to stir us with poetry and prose. He believed television to be a thief of time.

Dubbed 'Connemara' by Sandburg, the house and grounds are a good example of what Appalachian foothill living was like before we all got 'modern.' It's a pretty good hike from the parking area to the house, up a very steep hill. A tram does run if you can't hack it. No picnic area, but there are several benches that offer a cool spot with a good view.
