General William C Lee envisioned airborne assault tactics as early as the end of World War I when, as a young Army officer, he saw German efforts with gliders. The fee free museum is hosted in the home that General Lee owned the last several years of his life,

Lee is generally credited with the vision and planning of the D-Day assaults on Normandy. Ironically, because of ill health he was sent home and discharged before the operation was carried out. Still, he hosted many military and foreign leaders from that time to his death here in 1948.
