Lake Wylie, SC to Virgilina, VA

Although the first several miles through Charlotte can be a congested nightmare, NC-49 is really a good option for touring riders that want to avoid I-85 through the state. It is never far away from the faster route, so if you get antsy you can easily jump into the 75 MPH fray. If you are into lonely country roads with some pleasant scenery and gentle twists - you will enjoy most of this state highway.

Another thing in favor of choosing NC-49 as your route is that it is the middle portion of a tri-state route of about 325 miles; connecting with SC-49 on the south end and to VA-49 on the north. It's a perfect touring route for riders seeking a nice one day ride with lots to see from one end to another.
