Beautiful tribute to three brothers who made the ultimate sacrifice. Memorial also honors other locals who died in combat
Lamoreaux Brothers Memorial
Pine Street at W Averill St
Sparta, Kent County

The Village Remembers Them Still . . .

The boys are still in the hearts and minds of those that grew up with them in Sparta, and although gone more than 60 years they are still part of the town of Sparta ... even for those that never had the chance to know Al, Don, and Howard Lamoreaux.

The three brothers, separated by six years, all were killed on different battlefields of World War II in the 54 weeks between January 1944 and February 1945. "This memorial stands as a tribute to the three Lamoreaux brothers from Sparta, Michigan, who gave their lives for their country during World War II"

The memorial was presented by American Legion Post 107, following a design by Tom Cheslek and sculpted by John Schneider. It incorporates two other memorials obviously created in previous eras. Listed on two honor roll plaques are the names of another 34 men from Sparta that made the ultimate sacrifice. Their loss, although singular in nature, is no less heartfelt for the people of Sparta.

It would be nice to think these young men returned for a well deserved family reunion - but it was not to be . . .

"Erected in tribute to all members of this community who devotedly served their country in World War I and World War II
and in memory of those who so gallantly made the supreme sacrifice"
