Segregated fountain dedicated to Liberty, Equality, and Justice
Anson County Courthouse
Wadesboro, Anson County
"Erected in honor of Anson County soldiers who served in the World War to preserve the
principles and ideals of American independence, and to vouchsafe to suceeding generations the sublime truth
and the sacred trust of Liberty, Equality, and Justice."
Erected in 1921, the ladies of the Chapter must have had some notion that their efforts were slightly skewed against the Equality side when this memorial was dedicated... it certainly looks as if the fountain originally had TWO fonts, one for white and another for black. And, the World War I honor roll of veterans they affixed to the courthouse walls is also segregated; white and black.
