Located at the intersection of four busy highways - US-15, US-501, NC-24, and NC-27 Moore County Veterans Memorial, Carthage, NC
This new monument was recently erected and dedicated by the Moore County Veterans Memorial Committee. Either by design or intent, the area holds no dedication statement. Visitors must assume the names of the veterans and the fallen create their own statement of purpose. The Honor Roll holds the names of 155 local men that did not return to their families.
A moderately sized plaza with walkway leads past several benches toward an eagle mounted on a black marble pedestal etched with five service seals, the Merchant Marine seal being omitted. Immediately flanking the pedestal are two black marble Honor Roll slabs etched in gold with the names of the fallen. Flanking that are six additional two sided panels that hold the names of known veterans of the county.
A low wall stands behind the presentation to enclose the plaza. Major contributors are listed here. There seems to be plenty of room for more, and there will obviously be a need for additional work. Why not contact the committee and offer some help?
