An unusual statue and sentiment not often found All Veterans Memorial
County Courthouse Lawn
Troy, Montgomery County
"Dedicated to Montgomery County Veterans
In Honor Of Those Who Served
In Tribue To Those Who Perished
In Gratitude To Those Now Serving"
This really is a nice presentation. Two memorials, actually. The first honors service from the War of The Rebellion through World War I and the second picks up through current day. The older of the two has a panel that honors the women of the county that "stayed home and did their part" ... In today's Politically Correct culture, that may be a bit over the top, but it says a lot about the respect this county has for those that are not in uniform, but still supporting the efforts of the sons and daughters that are. Bravo, Montgomery County!
More modern presentation . . .
lists all known veterans?
The newer of the two memorial areas, erected in 1978, holds seven markers, six of them presumeably listing all of the local veterans. Although the eras of service are not noted, it is evident that many father/son entries are here. Click on any of the photos to enlarge and read the names.
Also found near this area is another small marker honoring the service of a Sheriffs Deputy, Dennis Lee Sheffield, lost in the line of duty in 1984.
