Original memorial was a clock
Bethesda World War I Memorial
Main Street, OH-147
Bethesda, Belmont County

"For God and Country"

"In honor and memory of those that served
Dedicated 1984"

"Town Clock
Erected 1920
In honor of those who served in World War I from the Village of Bethesda"

It's pretty obvious the town clock no longer exists, but when it was erected in 1920 the wounds of war were still fresh in the minds of Bethesda residents. For many of the men listed on this plaque the passing of time was simply a reminder of those that did not return.
