"Appreciation to the Medical Corps. Without their knowledge and committment, more lives would have been lost."
"Erected and dedicated to the memory of the Soldiers and Sailors of Fulton Count, Ohio, July 4th, 1921"
"Memorial dedicated to May 30th, 1969
In honor of those valiant men and women who served so honorably to promote peace and good will on earth.
Erected and donated by Robinson Gibbs Post 265 The American Legion"
There are two memorial areas at the Fulton County courthouse complex. The newest monument covers the fallen of World Wars I & II, Korea, and VietNam. It stands in front of the new courthouse annex. The old courthouse hosts the original monument of the Civil War with dedications to those that served in the 20th century wars and honor roll lists of those fallen in previous wars.
The new memorial area also has a statue entitled 'Sky Pilot.' It depicts an Army Chaplin in prayer, holding the dog tags of a fallen soldier. It's a moving piece, but somebody has enhanced the presentation. Three pieces of 'brass' have been placed into the Chaplain's hand, next to the dog tags. Those familiar with the conduct of a military funeral immediately understand the addition - the shell casings represent the traditional volley of three rounds fired to honor the deceased.
