Many battlefields of the American Revolution are gone now, lost to the ever expanding growth of population, residential and industrial development. Some, however, have been preserved in much the same condition as they were when men gathered in lines to take aim and fire musket and canon at one another. The blood of those that died on these fields was washed away by the first rains, but the acts of the bloodshed are still remembered; and by some revered for the courage and valor it took to march to those fields.
Cowpens National Battlefield is one of those fields where the success of the Continental forces was complete and without dispute. A more complete description of the battle, and the facility that now stands there, may be seen at the National Park Service site. A visit here doesn't take long, maybe an hour, but it's one of those stops that should be made by anyone that wants to fully understand the nature of war near the end of the 18th century.
