This visit surprised us, we did not expect to find the gravesite of a 7th Cavalry officer from the battle at Wounded Knees, South Dakota. The grave of Capt. George Wallace, USA, is here - an ornate tomb to honor a man that died in a climate not his own. December in South Dakota is vastly different from that enjoyed by his family in his native South Carolina. That's not uncommon for many that die in service, they are in unfamiliar surroundings doing a job that is often unpopular.
