DAV Blount County Honor Rolls Memorial
Courthouse, US-321
Maryville, Blount County

"I had rather all my sons should fill one honorable grave, than that one of them shall turn his back on an enemy. Go, and remember too, that while the door of my cottage is open to all brave men, it is always shut against cowards.
- quote from the Mother of Sam Houston"

"In memory of the soldiers an Patriots of the American Revolution who settled in Blount County"

The Daughters of the American Revolution prominently placed a plaque on this memorial to honor the memory of a 12 year Blount County resident, Sam Houston. Many Americans recognize the Houston was a Texan, but too few will recall that he was first a soldier and statesman from Tennessee. He alone can claim the title of the Governor of two states, House Representative for one state and Senator for another, and president of a sovereign republic.
